Milla Markussen  // Honours Student 2024

I’ve always loved telling stories and drawing characters. Something that’s only a recent interest is printmaking! So, I wanted to explore comics in the printed medium and use different physical effects to emphasise storytelling.

I’m a very hands on, get ideas drawn out as quickly as possible kind of artist and love to experiment with new techniques. I think play is an important part of the creative process and I also want people to be curious and explore the ideas in my work.

Because I want to design characters that people can connect to, I have worked on getting a deeper understanding of characters and characterizing people inclusively and respectfully, which stems from not seeing characters I related to myself.

Ultimately my motivation is to make people happy, to find joy in what I do and to have fun doing it!
